Wow, that was a great holiday season. It was nice to be away from Function Loves Form for a while. It gave us a good chance to step back and decide which direction we want to take the site. I’ve been posting alot of music, too much really, and while I Love music, Its only a matter of time until I get takedown notices for copyright infringement. I’ll try to limit the music, I realize that most of our readers don’t share my taste in music anyway, so I’ll try to cut it back to the stuff I think you’ll really like. I have finished The Best of 2008 and I hope to put it up in a podcast type format soon.

The recipes are coming back, I promise. I actually have ingredients now. We’ve been baking all of our own bread for about a month and a half now, I’ll share our recipe for our everyday whole wheat sandwich bread (its really Beth’s recipe not ours technically). Its tasty bread and I have yet to miss the spongy store-bought stuff. We also make our own yogurt now (I got a yogurt maker for christmas) and I have only recently perfected the recipe. Now our bi-weekly breakfast of toast and yogurt is 95% homemade (I’m not even gonna try to make the margarine). See our daughter’s version of this meal below.

I have made bread and I have been given red roses. How happy I am to hold both in my hands.

I’ve been pondering starting a book club here. I love reading and I love talking about books, so it would seem natural, right? I’m just not sure how we would do it. Would we discuss it in the comments? Can I create some sort of forum for it? I just don’t know. Maybe I’ll just start it and see where it goes.

That’s it for now, I’ve got work to catch up on. I will get that podcast up today and some recipes tomorrow. Hope you had a Great Holiday Season.

I had planned to post a recipe for ciabatta today, but I forgot the measurements at home. I did forget to take pictures in the forming and baking stage, I’ll try to work around that. You can definitely expect some apple recipes resulting from our latest trip to the orchard and more autumn themed recipes in general resulting from the temporary cooldown here in the valley (The 50 degree lows feel very cold). I would still like to do a product comparison, storebought versus homemade, or even product reviews, maybe someday. I’d like to include some recipes made with convenience foods ,for example, using Fresh & Easy or Trader Joe’s Pizza crust for pizza or breadsticks. I’d like to share some music with you also, but I fear copyright concerns. I could probably post a listen only version of the song and if you want the file, you could e-mail me. I found a podcast widget that I could probably integrate, if there is a demand for that kind of thing. More guest posts coming up, even some from rude commenters. If you feel like you’d have a good post, please, leave a comment, the more guest posts, the better. Thanks again for reading.

It’s been a busy week around here and its been a struggle to post. I haven’t cooked much this week so I don’t have much to post. I did make some Enchiladas Suizas with a butternut squash and pea filling, they were great. I hope to post that recipe on Monday. I will be baking bread this weekend, so we’ll have a bread update and some recipes. I’ll probably make a ciabatta and a foccacia, finally its getting into the season where I can turn the oven on without feeling guilty. Beth bought some red potatoes that I might make a potato chowder out of, this would be my first non vegetarian recipe to post if I get to it, a chowder isn’t a chowder without bacon (or another pork Product). I’m still pretending its autumn here in AZ even though we don’t have seasons or seasonal produce. We’re stocking up on butternut squash, potatoes, onions, acorn squash, and we are planning a trip to the apple orchard (only a 3 hour drive) soon. As we visit Payson, AZ and the mountain country I’ll be looking out for wild berries, I’ve heard the blackberries are in full harvest. I’ve been craving brussels sprouts so I’ll get a recipe for them. The baked goods seem to be the most popular recipes, I’ll consult my professional baking book and my Veganomicon cook book and see what we can come up with. Whether you like it or not, I will be posting more tofu recipes because that is our main staple, I’ll post some tempeh recipes too.

Tomorrow, September 4th marks FunctionLovesForm’s one month anniversary. Its been a good month and I feel like we’re hitting our stride. I definitely prefer the new theme to the old, but I still have alot of work to do on it. As I said before, we are expecting some guest posts, but I guess to get these people to contribute, you have to ask them first, so let me do that. My sister Emily, our most frequent commenter has expressed a desire to do a post, Emily, I officially invite you to do so. I would also invite any of our other frequent commenters to submit a post, I’m not sure exactly how we’ll post it, but just send me a word document or something and we’ll try it. I have throughly enjoyed all of your comments, thank you for them and keep them coming.
